Rock Your Socks Day – Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day 2026

19th Mar 2026

On Friday 20th March 2026, our whole school community came together to proudly show our support for World Down Syndrome Day by taking part in Rock Your Socks Day.

Pupils and staff arrived wearing their brightest, boldest and most mismatched socks, creating a wonderfully colourful and joyful atmosphere throughout the school. The day was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate difference, inclusion and individuality, and to raise awareness of Down syndrome in a fun and meaningful way.

Throughout the day, classes took time to talk about what makes each of us unique and why it is so important that everyone feels valued, included and respected. The simple act of wearing odd or colourful socks sparked important conversations and helped reinforce our school values of kindness, acceptance and belonging.

As the sun was shining, we took full advantage of the lovely weather. P.1/2, P.3/4 and the Little Blossom class enjoyed a joint outdoor ABL session, working and playing together while celebrating our SHINE principles of being Safe, Happy, Inclusive, Nurturing and Enjoyable. It was a wonderful example of pupils learning together, supporting one another and enjoying inclusive experiences beyond the classroom.

We were also delighted that the real “boss” of the school, Cahir, paid a visit to some of the classes to check in on the children and give his verdict on how everyone was getting on with their work. He certainly kept everyone on their toes and brought plenty of smiles with him — what a character!

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated globally to highlight the importance of inclusion and to celebrate the lives and achievements of people with Down syndrome. By rocking our socks together, we were proud to stand in solidarity with this message and show that our school is a place where everyone is welcomed and celebrated for who they are.

A special word of thanks to Liam, our Friday helper, who very kindly brought an Easter egg for our Little Blossom boys, bringing lots of smiles and adding an extra moment of joy to an already special day.

A huge thank you to all our pupils, families and staff for embracing the day with such enthusiasm and positivity. Your support helped make Rock Your Socks Day 2026 a truly memorable and meaningful event for our whole school community.

Together, we rocked our socks and celebrated what makes us all wonderfully different.
