We all had a super fun Green Day today, starting our St. Patrick’s celebrations early with our School Council Fun Day. From the very beginning, there was a wonderful buzz of excitement around the school, with a fantastic splash of green wherever you looked.
The morning kicked off with our Walking Bus, and thankfully the weather was on our side. Gilford was awash with a sea of green as children, parents and family members walked to school together, getting their all-important exercise while enjoying the lively, festive atmosphere to start the day.
Next up was an extended Daily Mile, with music playing through the speaker to make it extra fun and energetic. The children loved moving to the beat, and it was a great way to boost everyone’s mood and motivation for the day ahead.
After break time, the fun continued throughout the rest of the day with a wide range of games and activities for everyone to enjoy. These included St. Patrick’s Day colouring and arts and crafts, Hunt the Shamrock, Gaelic activities, a penalty shoot-out, and even some Irish dancing. There was something for everyone, and it was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and smiling faces across the school.
We also took time to celebrate a very special occasion — the birthday of our Friday helper, Liam. Everyone enjoyed helping him mark his big day, adding an extra layer of joy and celebration to an already fantastic Green Day.
A huge thank you to the School Council for organising such a brilliant day, and to all the staff who helped facilitate the activities and ensure everything ran smoothly. A special mention goes to Mrs McCavigan for teaching us several versions of The Waves of Tory, which were enjoyed by all and added a fantastic cultural touch to our celebrations.
Green Day 2026 was a great success and a perfect way to celebrate community, culture and fun together. Well done to everyone involved!
